Vision Alabama is pleased to announce the addition of optometrist Dr. Leah Kirkemier to the team. Dr. Kirkemier is a nationally recognized optometrist committed to personalized, high-quality eye care. She specializes in a number of areas, including neurology-related vision conditions, ocular disease, dry eye, pediatric optometry, contact lenses and sports vision care.

“Dr. Kirkemier brings not only deep expertise but also a genuine commitment to patient care,” said Dr. Tony Catanzaro at Gadsden Eye Associates. “We’re fortunate to have her on the Vision Alabama team and confident that her presence will continue to better the level of care we provide.”

Dr. Kirkemier previously operated a mobile clinic, providing eye care to rural communities, school systems, nursing homes and athletes across the country. She has helped broaden access to care through telemedicine programs and pediatric vision therapy services. Throughout her career, Dr. Kirkemier has collaborated on research initiatives for multifocal lenses, presbyopia treatment, concussion protocols and pediatric eye screening legislation.

Dr. Kirkemier earned her B.S. in biology from The University of Alabama and her Doctor of Optometry from UAB, where she received the Low Vision Award. Her career spans private practices, hospitals and academia, including a tenure as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UABSO, where she was honored twice as Clinical Assistant Professor of the Year. Recognized nationally, Dr. Kirkemier holds multiple awards and licensure in six states, and remains dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality care.
